Reality is Messy

Reality is Messy

Senate Bill 8 Is currently being debated on the US Senate floor. God Bless Hillary Clinton D-NY!!!
This bill would criminalize an adult who transports a minor across state lines from a state with a Parental Notification Law on the books, into a state that has no Parental Notification in order to obtain an Abortion.
Now this seems like a decent idea.  Why wouldn’t we want to force people to obey the laws of the states in which they live?
Why would we want to make sure that youth are telling their parents about everything they need in want in their lives?

Well Hillary, Thanks for bringing this up. Reality is Messy.  One of the greatest (in fact one of very few things at all) that I heard John Kerry say during the campaign of 2004 was about parental notification laws.
“I am not going to tell a 14 year old girl, that she has to get her fathers permission, the father of the child she is bearing, in order to get an abortion.”

This is the situation we are dealing with. 97% of minors seeking abortions tell their parents according to NARAL. Why don’t those other 3% tell their parents? Well lets think about that.

So I was writing this blog, and listening to the Senate debate this bill hwen a friend of ours form  an office upstairs in our building came by to chat.  He brought me some news, some articles of various magazines and newspapers to check out and some disturbing news which just reemphasized a point I was working toward in this blog.

The Dollar in the US has fallen to the point that 100 dollars buys 51 pounds of British money.  Isn’t that insane? A majority of our treasury bonds are owned by china, a Majority of them are owned by one country, and they aren’t making any money on them. Apparently our Economy depends on them buying our treasury bonds on a daily basis.  Anyone see some problems with this?

And what are we doing? Well three weeks ago we debated Gay Marriage, after a multi-week focus on Immigration, but before we took up Flag Burning.  Now we’re debating abortion and state line crossing, and later we will probably bring up something equally ridiculous and irrelevant to distract Americans.

Why aren’t we outraged? Because we don’t know any better.

This is just another ridiculous example of the way this country is being run, and why we can’t allow Republicans to continue controlling the agenda…

Thank You Ladies!!!!

I haven’t written on here in a while, I’m wondering if I really have the discipline to do this. But when I do it I get good responses.

So this is to all the Womyn!!!!

I was driving home tonight from a friends, and heard this song, and I think it’s a fairly romantic political song, and I thought ‘I wish I had someone in my life this song applied to.’ It invoked images of a nice intelligent sexy man cuddling on a couch after a long hard day, crying about the politics of the day, and him just being there for me.
Then I realized that I don’t need a man for this, and by contrast I have something better!

My mother (we share a birthday which is rapidly approaching) is one of my best friends. She has been there for me in all the times I’ve needed her, from coming out, to stressful losing campaigns, to victory nights, to bad breakups. Thanks Mama!

I have two very close friends here in ABQ. Michelle and Ambrosia and I have to thank them. They have been rocks for me in my political life! They get much if not most of the credit for the ability I have to be ever dedicated and passionate!

I realize now if I write about all the women in my life like this, this will be an incredibly long posting so forgive me if I get shorter as I go through the list, which is, in no particular order!!!

My grandma, who has shared so many personal stories for me that gave me passion for the issues that move me most!!!
Maggie my friend who has employed me when I needed it most, been there for me at work, and off the clock, and above all mentored me to be the politico I am.
Linda for teaching me the legislature so well
Liz for caring enough to ask about me, and to encourage me to get a degree
Judy for trusting me, employing me, feeding me, and counseling me
Laura for trusting me
Deana for wanting more than a student, a friend, a confidante, a lunch buddy!
Alex for taking a break fro Repro Justice to talk about boyfriends, girlfriends, and jobs
Brenda for reconnecting, for that really long breakup letter, and getting me through a legislative session, primary, and two boyfriends in there somewhere
Britt for always working my debate skills!

I realize this list is terribly incomplete, and to the folks reading this not knowing who these women are, please think about the women in your lives. The ones who were there for you when you needed them, the ones who supported you, nurtured you, and made you always feel at home…

I hear this quote once, and apologize for not knowing to whom it should be credited.

If just one woman, told all the secrets of her life, the world would split open…

Here it is, Easy Silence by The Dixie Chicks
And read into it politically, as it is a political song.
Thanks Ladies!!!!
